The last twelve months have seen Frank perform sold-out runs at both London’s Leicester Square Theatre and the Edinburgh Fringe, making this the must-see comedy event of the new year.Commentaires longs: Frank Skinner’s live career began in 1987 when he spent £400 of his last £435 booking a room at the Edinburgh Festival Fringe. Four years later in 1991 he returned to the city and beat fellow nominees Jack Dee and Eddie Izzard to take home comedy’s most prestigious prize, The Perrier Award. He last toured the UK in 2014 with the extended, critically-acclaimed Frank Skinner: Man in a Suit which included a sold-out return to the Edinburgh Festival Fringe.
As a television presenter, Frank Skinner hosted seven series of BBC One’s Room 101, and hosted four series of Portrait Artist of the Year and three series of Landscape Artist of the Year for Sky Arts. He also hosted the BBC iPlayer-exclusive chat show Frank Skinner On Demand with…, whose guests included Lee Mack, Katy Brand, Doc Brown, Russell Howard and Michael Ball.
As a radio presenter his Absolute Radio show has won three gold awards for Best Speech Programme (2011 and 2014) and Best Entertainment/Comedy Production (2017) at the ARIAs (formerly the Sony’s) and saw him inducted into the Radio Academy Hall of Fame in December 2015. To celebrate Frank’s 60th birthday in 2017, Absolute Radio launched the ‘pop-up’ radio station Absolute Radio Frank which showcased only highlights from his seven years at the station as well as new exclusive content. In 2014 and 2016 respectively, Frank hosted a brand-new comedy panel show The Rest is History for Radio 4 and in 2016 he also wrote and starred in a third series of critically-acclaimed comedy drama series Don’t Start alongside Katherine Parkinson, both on BBC Radio 4.
Frank also created and hosted three series of Frank Skinner’s Opinionated for BBC Two, and created The Frank Skinner Show (ITV) which is widely credited as setting the tone for the modern comedic chat show, running for nine years it attracted 11 million viewers at its peak. He regularly guest-hosts Have I Got News for You (BBC1) and has presented documentaries covering passions including Muhammad Ali (BBC1), Elvis (BBC4) and investigating the life of George Formby (BBC4). In 2015 Frank hosted What a Performance!, a series celebrating the history of light entertainment for BBC4 and in 2018 he performed ukulele with the George Formby Society for the Queen at her 92nd birthday party at the Royal Albert Hall. In 2014, he appeared as a guest star in Mummy on the Orient Express, a series 8 episode of Doctor Who (BBC1) and in 2015 he starred in Rotters, a silent one-off special for Sky Arts.
With David Baddiel, Frank created and presented Fantasy Football and Baddiel and Skinner Unplanned (ITV). Alongside The Lightning Seeds the pair have attained three number one hits with the football anthem Three Lions.
As an author, Frank has published Dispatches from the Sofa; a collection of columns he wrote for The Times over a two year period and has written two autobiographies, the first of which, Frank Skinner, was the top selling autobiography of 2002, spending 46 weeks in The Sunday Times Bestseller List. The second Frank Skinner: On The Road, chronicled his 2007, sell-out return to stand-up.
In 2018 his first play, Nina’s Got News, was staged at the Edinburgh Festival Fringe.
